Features

Easy Setup

Wear the TICKR heart rate monitor around your chest and pair with over 50 compatible fitness apps. Your smartphone will automatically reconnect the next time you wear it to train.

Accurate and Reliable

Chest strap technology detects electrical signals through the skin being produced by the heart muscle (ECG), and transmit these signals wirelessly to your device. This ECG method is more accurate and reliable than optical smartwatches, particularly at higher heart rates during intense physical activity.

Bluetooth and ANT+

Dual-band signal pairs to both iPhone/Android smartphones and GPS sports watches / bike computers at the same time!

Heart Rate Variability*

Heart rate variability (HRV) measures the time gap between each heart beat. Research shows high HRV indicates good health and a high level of fitness, whilst lower HRV can indicate stress, fatigue and burnout. Monitor your HRV and avoid overtraining using EliteHRV or ithlete.

*Bluetooth connection only

Long Battery Life

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ANT+ signal transmission requires very low power. Battery can last up to 1 year with standard use (1 hour per day) before needing to replace it.

30 Day Return Policy

Stress-free 30-day return policy. If you don't like it, send it back for a full 100% refund (ex delivery costs). No questions asked. What is our Returns Policy?

Frequently Asked Questions

General

How can a heart rate monitor help me?
A heart rate monitor is a tool that can help improve your athletic performance as a result of better training.
How do I switch it on?
No switches! Your TICKR's transmitter is automatically activated when the sensor is connected to the chest strap AND the conductive strip (plastic section of chest strap) makes direct contact with your skin. Removing the chest strap or disconnecting the sensor will de-activate the transmitter. No switches, no recharging, no hassles.
How should I wear my TICKR heart rate monitor?
The TICKR chest strap should be worn snugly around your chest, just below your breastbone (sternum), and directly touching your skin. The chest strap should feel comfortable but still tight enough that it does not move during physical activity. See Getting Started for full setup instructions.
How should I care for my TICKR heart rate monitor?
After each workout you should remove the sensor from the chest strap and dry clean with a damp towel. After extended use the chest strap can be rinsed under warm water and allowed to dry.
How does chest strap heart rate sensing (ECG) compare to smartwatch heart rate sensing (optical)?
Chest strap heart rate monitors detect electrical signals through the skin being produced by the heart muscle (ECG), and transmit these signals wirelessly to your smartphone over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio frequency. This ECG method is very accurate, even at higher heart rates during intense physical activity, and therefore equally suited to both casual users and athletes. In comparison, smartwatch heart rate monitors use green LED lights to illuminate the capillaries while light-sensitive photodiodes measure the amount of light that is absorbed by the red pigment of the blood as it flows past. The accuracy of this optical method will vary from person to person due to factors such as movement, position, sweat, hair density, skin color, and tattoos.
What are the main advantages of chest straps over smartwatch fitness trackers?
In general, chest strap heart rate monitors have longer battery life, are less expensive (when combined with your smartphone), can be conveniently kept in your gym bag, offer more versatility with compatible smartphone apps, and are more reliable and accurate - particularly during physical activity. Your TICKR heart rate monitor also transmit HRV data for measuring recovery, overtraining, and heart health. Chest strap heart rate monitors are tried and tested training aid technology that have been around since the 1980s and only now being utilised to their full potential with the recent introduction of Bluetooth LE and smartphone apps.
What sports can benefit from wireless heart rate monitoring?
Any sport where performance improvements can be made by measuring recovery and effort can benefit from heart rate monitoring. Historically, the first wireless ECG heart rate monitor was invented in 1977 by the founder of Polar Electro, Seppo Säynäjäkangas, as a training aid for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski team. Then in the mid-80s 'intensity training' became a popular concept in athletic circles, leading to the first retail sales in 1982 of wireless personal heart monitors.

How do I setup my new TICKR heart rate monitor with the app I just downloaded?
Click here to see our quick setup guides for popular iPhone and Android apps.
Why won't my new TICKR heart rate monitor pair with my smartphone?
Click here to see answers to common problems connecting to smartphones.
How do I connect (pair) my smartphone to the TICKR heart rate monitor?
Each smartphone platform, such as iPhone or Android, pairs heart rate monitors differently. Also, pairing your heart rate monitor in one app does not automatically pair it in another app, and each app pairs heart rate monitors differently. Click here for our quick setup guides on iPhone and Android phones.
Why is my heart rate not being displayed on my smartphone?
First ensure your TICKR heart rate monitor has been correctly fitted to your chest, the electrodes (conductive strips) are making good contact with your skin (moisten if required), and Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone. Next, we suggest downloading the Wahoo Utility app available free on the App Store and Google Play. This app tests the connection between your phone and the heart rate monitor.
Why do I keep losing the Bluetooth connection to my smartphone?
First, check your smartphone is in close proximity to the sensor, the smartphone-to-sensor signal is unobstructed, the sensor is connected and oriented to the L/R chest strap fastening buttons, the chest strap is properly fitted, and the electrodes have been moistened. From our own smartphone tests, if after accidentally detaching/re-attaching the sensor from the strap during training, you experience difficulties re-establishing a Bluetooth connection - we recommend closing the app, sleep then waking the phone. Finally, if all else fails, the most likely cause is a low battery in your heart rate monitor. Follow the instructions provided with your heart rate monitor to replace the battery.
Can the TICKR heart rate monitor connect to my GPS sports watch or bike computer?
If your sports watch or bike computer supports ANT+ pairing, then yes! Most bike computers and particularly Garmin products support ANT+ pairing.
Should I connect the TICKR heart rate monitor to my smartphone using Bluetooth or ANT+?
All smartphones should support Bluetooth but only some support ANT+ natively (Android only). If your smartphone supports both, you should first try pairing using Bluetooth. However, some customers (with Sony Xperia's) who experienced problems with Bluetooth pairing, had more success using ANT+ with ANT+ enabled apps. For more information and a comprehensive list of ANT+ native smartphones and ANT+ apps, you may find this resource useful www.thisisant.com.

Battery

How long will the battery last?
With Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy technology (BLE) your TICKR heart rate monitor should operate for approximately 1 year with standard use (1 hour per day). The sensor will switch on automatically once it's clipped onto the chest strap and fitted correctly (ie. electrodes have good contact with skin). Remove the chest strap and unclip the sensor after each workout to preserve battery life.
Is the TICKR heart rate monitor battery rechargeable?
No. The pre-installed battery is a common coin cell 3V battery (CR2032) which must be replaced. Replacement batteries can be found at most supermarkets and should only cost a few dollars. We recommend your local Chemist Warehouse for the best price on recommended Energizer CR2032 batteries at around $2.50 each (or $10 per 4-pack).
How do I replace the TICKR heart rate monitor battery?
Using a ten cent coin, twist the battery cover counter clockwise towards the left arrow indicator until it clicks out of place. Careful not to twist beyond the arrow, or you'll damage the cover. Remove the old battery and dispose safely. Insert the new battery with the plus-side terminal facing upwards. Replace the battery cover and twist clockwise towards the right arrow indicator until it clicks firmly back into place.
